The tombs of Sha Jahan and Mumtaz Jahan When we finally arrived in Agra, we dumped our bags in our rooms and went straight down to the river to watch the sun set over the Taj Mahal. And what a sight it was! It.s impossible to describe in words the beauty of the buildings, nor does any photograph do it justice, the translucency of the carved marble screens, the symetry of the patterns, the carved marble trellice, it's all breathtakingly beautiful. We spent 2 days in Agra and went back 3 times to explore the Taj inside and out. Equally imposing is the Agra Fort, across the river, where Sha Jahan was imprisoned by his son and spent the rest of his days looking at the magnificent monument he had built for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died at the age of 39 after giving birth to her 14th child. |
